Éric Serra

Éric Serra ( born September 9, 1959 in Paris, France ) is a French film music composer.

Biography

To the music came Éric Serra by his father Claude Serra, who was a famous songwriter in France. His mother died already when he was seven years old. At the age of eleven he began playing guitar. With 15 years Serra has already performed with several bands as a guitarist. In 1976 he was one of the most sought after studio guitarists with over 50 recordings with international pop artists such as Jacques Higelin, Pierre Meige and Youssou N'Dour.

1981 Serra met for the first time to the director Luc Besson, who brought him to film music. Serra composed the music for the short film avant dernier, L. Serra became friends with Besson and was now on its trunk composer. He later set to music more well-known films by Luc Besson, this includes about The Big Blue (1988 ), Nikita (1990 ), Léon - The Professional ( 1994), The Fifth Element (1997) and Joan of Arc (1999).

1995 Serra composed the music for Goldeneye, the 17th James Bond film. In 1998 he published a rock album titled RXRA.

Éric Serra is one of the experimental film composers, which makes his work controversial. Its rather gloomy composition for the James Bond film GoldenEye caused irritation. Was it the orchestral music of John Barry from previous Bond films used to Serra focused on a mixture of orchestral and electronic music to represent the coldness of occurring in the film former Soviet Union. As this new form is not received by the audience, Serra could have made only a James Bond movie set to music. With the film scores for The Fifth Element and The Big Blue, however, he had a great commercial success since its novel compositions like had created for these films.
