Eric von Hippel

Eric von Hippel ( born August 27, 1941) is an economist and professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management with specialization in economics and principles of distributed innovation and so-called " open innovation ". He became famous for his concept of "user innovation", which indicates that end-users and not producers are responsible for a significant part of innovation. To describe this phenomenon, he introduced the term "lead user".

His work is used in business strategies or free and open source software.
