Eric Wellwood

Eric Wellwood (born 6 March 1990 in Windsor, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since 2010 at the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League under contract and playing in parallel for their farm team in Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League. His older brother, Kyle Wellwood is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Eric Wellwood began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the Windsor Spitfires, for by 2010 he was active from 2006 in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League. With the team he won for the seasons 2008/ 09 and 2009/10 respectively to the J. Ross Robertson Cup, the champion of the OHL and then the Memorial Cup, the final tournament for the championship of the Canadian Hockey League. During his time with the Spitfires the winger was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2009 in the sixth round as a total of 172 players from the Philadelphia Flyers. For the Flyers it came in the 2010/11 season to three inserts in the National Hockey League, where he prepared a goal. He spent the entire rest of the season at Philadelphia's farm team in Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League. There, he scored in 73 games 28 scorer points, including 16 goals. In the seasons 2011/12 and 2012/13, the Canadians also ran on for both teams. On April 7, 2013, retired in AHL game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers a serious injury to his left leg, which will probably make him miss the 2013/14 season completely. Currently, Eric Wellwood helps the coaching staff of his former junior clubs Windsor Spitfires in the OHL as an assistant coach from.
