Eric Wright (writer)

Eric Wright ( born May 4, 1929 in South London, United Kingdom) is a Canadian writer and university teacher of English origin.

Life

Eric Wright was in the Kennington Park Road, in South London, England, the son of a seamstress Caroline (nee Curnow ) and the Fuhrmanns Joseph Wright born. Wright was born into an impoverished extended family with nine siblings. After he had grown up in Lambeth, he emigrated to Canada in 1951.

There, Wright attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated in 1957 his Bachelor of Arts and the University of Toronto where he received his Master of Arts in 1963. Until his retirement (1958-1989), he taught English at Ryerson Polytechnic University, Toronto. Wright continues to live in the city of Ontario, along with his wife and two daughters.

Whrights books won numerous awards over the years. Only four of his detective novels received the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Crime Novel. These include The Night the Gods Smiled, of 1984, also received the Toronto Book Awards and the British John Creasy Memorial Award and the Dagger Award. Smoke Detector and Death in the Old Country also won the Arthur Ellis Award. In 1998, the Wright Derrick Murdoch Award for his life's work as a mystery writer. His novel, The Kidnapping of Rosie Dawn won after the Edgar Allan Poe Award.

Wright is best known for his portrayal of the police everyday life, in the Police Inspector Charlie Salter of the Metropolitan Toronto Police plays the main role, which is known for its laconic and comprehensible style.

In contrast, his novel Moodie 's Tale offered similar Colin Dexter a graphic account of the academic everyday life, which was accepted by the critics as a positive. ". Wright's memoir, Always Give a Penny to a Blind Man, however, allow a deeper insight into his personal life.
