Eric X of Sweden

Erik X. (Erik Knutsson, * 1180, † April 10, 1216 Castle Headlands on Visingsö ) was from Erik gender and was from 1208 to 1216 King of Sweden.

Life

Erik was the son of Knut I. His reign were three battles with the family of Sverker advance. In the battle of Älgarås 1205 his three brothers fell, while Erik was able to escape himself. In the Battle of Lena in 1208 Erik could triumph over Sverker II. Then Erik was elected king. 1210 reached Sverker II to again, but fell in the battle of Gestilren.

While at first the Church Sverker II supports and Erik had fought as a usurper, they now became reconciled with him. Archbishop Valerius crowned him. This is the first known coronation of a Swedish king. Maybe there was this ritual before.

Erik married Rikissa of Denmark ( † 1220 ).

He died of " tvinsott " (tuberculosis? ). Since the Swedish elite could not think of a minor king with a long regency, she chose the 15 -year-old Johann Sverkersson to the king, and Rikissa moved to Denmark with her son.

His grave is located in Varnhem monastery church.

Marriage and issue

From the marriage with Rikissa of Denmark, a son and at least three daughters were born:
