Erich Brandenburg

Arnold Otto Erich Brandenburg ( born July 31, 1868 in Stralsund, † January 22, 1946 in Leipzig) was a German historian and genealogist, author and editor of historical works.

Brandenburg was one of the most respected historians of the budding 20th century and taught history at the University of Bonn. In 1903 he was appointed Head of the History Department at the University of Leipzig, where he taught modern history. There is no mistaking the influence of Karl Lamprecht with him.

After the handover of power Brandenburg signed 11 November 1933, the commitment of the professors at German universities and colleges to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi state.

Brandenburg wrote a biography of Maurice of Saxony to 1547 continuously, which is an important source known representation entirely. He is not limited to a pure church history or political representation but can also be incorporated cultural and economic aspects of the history. 1900 began the publication of the Political Correspondence of Maurice of Saxony, which was completed only in 2006 with the sixth volume under the editorship of Gunther Wartenberg.

Brandenburg's major work The Empire ( 2 vols, plus 1 documents Band) was up in the 1950s as a basic literature on the subject.
