Erich Buck

Erich Buck ( born January 5, 1949 in Weingarten ) is a former German figure skater, who started ice dancing.

Life

Erich Buck grew up in Ravensburg. He went to high school graduation in 1967 the local Albert -Einstein -Gymnasium. He studied in Munich business since 1976 and operates an insurance office in Ravensburg. In 1977 he married the Swiss figure skating champion Charlotte Walter. The couple has two children. 1980 Erich Buck was elected to the Ravensburger council.

Buck is an avid sailor, president of the Lake Constance Lacustre fleet and was repeatedly Bodensee master. As helmsman he reached five times the blue ribbon at the regatta "Around the Lake ".

Sporting career

His Eistanzpartnerin was his sister Angelika Buck. The siblings were trained by Betty Callaway in Oberstdorf and represented the ERV Ravensburg. From 1968 to 1973 she was the sixth consecutive German Eistanzmeister. Their first major international medals they won in 1970 with silver at the European Championships in Leningrad and bronze at the World Championships in Ljubljana. It was the first Eistanzmedaillen for Germany at the World and European Championships. From this point, the Bucks were the strongest competitors of the most successful Eistanzpaares history, Lyudmila and Alexander Gorshkov Pakhomova from the Soviet Union. In 1971 she was in Zurich Vice - European Champion and Vice World Champion in Lyon. At the European Championships 1972 in Gothenburg succeeded Angelika and Erich Buck as a single Eistänzern in the period 1970-1976 at all to defeat Pakhomova and Gorshkov. Thus they became the first and to date only German European champion in ice dancing.
