Erich Cohn

Erich Cohn (* March 1, 1884 in Berlin, † August 28 1918 in France ) was a German chess master.

Life

Cohn studied literature and art history, then for a while medicine. He suggested the career a doctor, even though he had faced with their own health problems. Later he devoted himself exclusively to the game of chess. From a young age he was an excellent player. In the Berlin chess circles he enjoyed because of his amiable character popularity.

Erich Cohn fell on August 28, 1918 during the First World War, during fighting on the Western Front in France. It lies on the German War Cemetery Neuville -St. Vaast buried in the Pas -des- Calais.

Tournaments

The first masters tournament in which he took part was that in Nuremberg in 1906. He won there a decent result, the authorized to beautiful hopes. That this is not entirely fulfilled in spite of his eminent talents, was due to a certain lack of stamina and uniformity as well as to unfavorable external circumstances. In some tournaments, such as in Ostend in 1907 and in Breslau in 1912, he played the first half quite admirably, but fell completely in the second from.

Several times he took part in the Berlin tournaments with 4 participants. Here in 1909 it won with Teichmann shared first place ( before the match and man of Bardeleben ), 1910, he finished second behind Teichmann. In 1912, he and Reti in Abbazia third parties, in Stockholm, he finished behind Alekhine second place. In 1914 he won last time together with Spielmann Berlin Master Tournament.

In 1906 he won the Berlin championship before Horatio Caro and Otto Schewe. In 1910 he repeated this success and won before Ehrhardt Post and G. Wiarda.

Duels

Erich Cohn played matches against known chess master: in Munich. In 1909 he was defeated Rudolf Spielmann with 1:2 ( 1, -2, = 0), in 1909 in Berlin Eduard Lasker with 1:3 ( 1, -3, = 0). He defeated 1906 Horatio Caro in Berlin with 5,5:1,5 ( 5, -1, = 1).
