Erie County (Pennsylvania)

Erie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. In the 2000 census, the county had 280 843 inhabitants and a population density of 135 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Erie.

History

The County was formed in 1800 and named for the Erie Indians.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​4036 square kilometers, of which 1959 square miles are water. Erie County is bordered on the southwest by Ashtabula County ( Ohio), on the south by Crawford County, on the east by Chautauqua County ( New York), to the southeast by Warren County and on the north by Lake Erie.
