Erie County (Pennsylvania)
Erie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. In the 2000 census, the county had 280 843 inhabitants and a population density of 135 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Erie.
History
The County was formed in 1800 and named for the Erie Indians.
Geography
The county has an area of 4036 square kilometers, of which 1959 square miles are water. Erie County is bordered on the southwest by Ashtabula County ( Ohio), on the south by Crawford County, on the east by Chautauqua County ( New York), to the southeast by Warren County and on the north by Lake Erie.
