Erie is a place ( with a status of "Village" ) in Whiteside County in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, Erie had 1602 inhabitants.
Geography
Erie is located at 41 ° 39'23 " north latitude and 90 ° 04'45 " west longitude and covers approximately four square kilometers. The town is the center of Erie Township.
Erie is located near the Rock River, approximately 20 km east of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. Towns nearby are Lyndon (15 km northeast), Prophetstown (15,5 km to the east ), Hillsdale (9,7 km southwest) and Morrison (23 km northeast).
The nearest large towns are Dubuque, Iowa (130 km north-west ), Rockford (132 km northeast), Chicago (218 km east), Peoria (139 km south-southeast ), the Quad Cities ( 50.6 km southwest ) and Cedar Rapids, Iowa (167 km west-northwest ).
Traffic
About two miles north of the Interstate 88 runs Ortsrandes that connects Chicago to the Quad Cities. Through the center of Erie extend no national highways.
By Erie runs a railway line of the BNSF Railway, which runs along the Rock River.
The nearest airport is 51.4 km south west Quad City International Airport.
Demographic data
