Erik Almgren

Erik Almgren ( born January 28, 1908 in Stockholm; † August 23, 1989 ) was a Swedish national football player and coach.

Career

Almgren began his career at Essinge IK. At the turn of 1933/34, he moved to AIK in the Allsvenskan. By 1943, he played for the club and in 1937 Swedish national champion. Overall, the midfielder, who was employed as outer and middle runner denied, 197 top-flight appearances, get it to him four goals. Because of his style of play and its occurrence and off the field, he enjoyed great respect.

Almgren also played 13 times for the Swedish national team. He participated with the Blågult at the World Cup in 1938 and played in all three games during the tournament.

After his retirement in 1944 Almgren moved to the dugout from AIK Solna. A year later he became a coach at IFK Helsingfors, 1948, he oversaw Åtvidabergs FF. In 1951, he returned as head of department to AIK Solna and later took over various activities in the club.
