Erik Bergvall

Erik Bergvall ( born April 7, 1880 in Västerfärnebo, Västmanland Province; † February 4, 1950 in Bromma ) was a Swedish water polo player, journalist, author and sports official.

Bergvall occupied in the 1908 Olympic Games in water polo with the Swedish team to third place. In 1906 and 1909, he won the Swedish water polo champion.

Bergvall 1908 was one of the founders of the Fédération Internationale de Natation Amateur ( FINA), and was until 1928 a board member of the association. In 1904 he founded the Simförbundet Svenska, the Swedish Swimming Federation, whose secretary he was 1904-1908 and over which he presided as president from 1909 to 1932. The board of the Swedish Sports Federation ( Svenska gymnastics och idrottsföreningarnas Riksförbund ) belonged Bergvall of its foundation from 1903 to 1945 at. The Swedish NOK, he belonged to the assistant secretary of the foundation from 1913 to 1924. In 1906 he worked for a predecessor of today's Swedish NOCs in itself position.

From 1916 to 1945 he worked as Managing Director of the Stockholm Olympic Stadium. As a journalist, he worked for the sports newspaper Nordiskt Idrottslif 1900 to 1903 and from 1905 until the cessation in 1920. He was the editor of the Official Report of the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 and was responsible for more than 30 books as author or editor. For the Olympic Games of 1920-1948 Bergvall also brought out reports, some of them on behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Sweden.

This applied especially at the Olympic Games in 1920 Bergvall System is a his concept of a tournament based on the knockout system, and which he named after himself.
