Erik Lindegren

Johan Erik Lindegren (* August 5, 1910 in Lulea, † May 31, 1968 in Stockholm) was a Swedish poet, literary critic and translator; He was from 1962 to 1968 Member of the Swedish Academy, where he held the seat No. 17.

Life and work

Erik Lindegren was the son of a railway engineer and a grandson of the composer Johan Lindgren. Already as a student he wrote his first poems and worked intensively on advanced foreign poetry. In 1937 he met the writer Charles Vennberg know; together they translated Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral. Both she led the "Group 1940 " at, in which Swedish poet had joined her generation.
