Erik Nielsen

Erik Hersholt Nielsen, DFC, QC, PC ( born February 24, 1924 in Regina, Saskatchewan, † September 4, 2008 in Kelowna, British Columbia) was a Canadian politician.

Life

Nielsen was from 1957 Member of the Parliament of Yukon and won all elections until his retirement in 1987. Among Prime Minister Joe Clark, he was Minister of Public Works (Minister of Public Works). When this government was voted out in 1980, he was leader of the opposition. He was also dated 19 February 1983 to June 11, 1983 Interim Chairman of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. When Brian Mulroney was elected Prime Minister in 1984, he made Nielsen as his deputy. Nielsen held this office from 1984 to 1986, he was also Minister of Defence from 1985 to 1986.

In June 1986, Nielsen came back after an affair about alleged advantage of acquisitions Minister Sinclair Stevens from his position after he and Chairman of the National Transportation Agency was established in January, 1987, he also gave his seat in Parliament on. In 1992 he moved into the private sector and was president of a company for solar technology.

Nielsen was one of the brothers of actor Leslie Nielsen.
