Erik Simon

Erik Simon ( born August 21, 1987 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a German ski jumper.

Career

Simon started since 2002 in the Alpine Cup and FIS Junior jumping. In 2003, he was able to secure the title as German junior champion. In January 2004, he raced in Brotterode first time in the Continental Cup (COC ), but occupied only rear placements. After he had taken part in other Alpine Cup and Junior Jumping, he started in December 2004 with other COCs. After he initially occupied only places outside the points, he could take second place on 28 December 2004 in Engelberg somewhat surprising. In the further course of the winter 2004/ 05 he took part in another Continental Cup and was able to classify several times in the top 15. Towards the end of winter, he took part in the Junior World Championship 2005 in Rovaniemi, where he finished third in the individual competition the 11th Place and with the German team to ninth place.

In summer 2005, he participated in several COC summer jumping, with a tenth place in Kranj his best result remained. In the winter of 2005/ 06 he started consistently in the Continental and occupied seats in the midfield. In the summer 2006, he missed COCs throughout the final round, but was in the winter of 2006/ 07 increase. He took part in the Four Hills Tournament 2006/ 07, but managed in any of the jumping qualification for the first competition round. In mid-February he celebrated in Westby with third place a further COC podium. After he participated in other Continental Cup and again came third in Zakopane on 18 March 2006 he managed to qualify for the World Cup at the end of the season in Planica ski flying event held for the first time.

After he had started at the beginning of the summer of 2007 back in the COC, he took part in the second half of the summer at the Summer Grand Prix, with the 20th place in Hakuba where he could score points for the first time in a premier competition series on 9 September 2007. In the winter of 2007/ 08 he was constantly changing between World and Continental back and forth. While he was in some show jumping rankings in the front area of the field in the Continental Cup, he did not survive in the World Cup is usually the qualification. In the three competitions for which he qualified, he could not reach the second round. In the summer of 2008, he again took part in some COC- jumping, with a fourth place in Lillehammer his best result was. In addition, he could also qualify for some Grand Prix jumping. While he was still a chance at an early stage in the summer taking place in Hinterzarten, he was by then in a first-class competition to achieve the best result when discharged in Klingenthal on 3 October 2008 jumping with his 17th place.

In the winter of 2008/ 09 he first started out solely in the World Cup, but missed most jumping the qualification. The two competitions for which he qualified, he wound up a the 50th place. After he was disqualified in the qualifying campaign for the New Year's event of the Four Hills Tournament in Garmisch -Partenkirchen because of too long skis, he switched back to the Continental. There he could always reach the points and even occupy multiple places in the top ten. At the beginning of the Nordic Tournament in 2009, he returned to the World Cup. Having already qualified for the first competition in Lahti, he gained his first World Cup point in the second event on March 10 in Kuopio. Five days later, he succeeded in Vikersund this again. Since then, he has been able to erspringen no more World Cup points.
