Erik Thorstvedt
Erik Thorstvedt ( born October 28, 1962 in Stavanger ) is a former Norwegian football player.
Playing career
Viking Stavanger
First match practice collected Erik Thorstvedt in his Norwegian homeland at Eik -Tønsberg and Viking Stavanger, before he moved to the German first division club Borussia Mönchengladbach in 1986.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
The early season impersonated by Gladbach Thorstvedt made his debut in the Bundesliga 1985/86 23 Round 2-0 away win at FC Cologne 1 and completed by the end of season eight league games. In the UEFA Cup 1985/86 Gladbach had failed with his predecessor Ulrich Sude in the 3rd round with 5:1 and 0:4 at Real Madrid. In the 1986/87 season he played only the first three league games and moved in 1987 to the Swedish giants IFK Gothenburg.
IFK Gothenburg
Gothenburg won with Coach Gunder Bengtsson in Fotbollsallsvenskan 1987, the Swedish Championship and also secured with goalkeeper Thomas Wernersson the title in the UEFA Cup 1986/87. 1987 ended Wernersson by these successes, his career and was replaced by Erik Thorstvedt. In the Fotbollsallsvenskan 1988 Gothenburg could not defend his title, but lost to a second place in the regular season in the semifinals against Djurgårdens IF. In the European Cup of Champions 1988/89 Gothenburg failed in the quarterfinals at Steaua Bucharest. Thorstvedt, however, was changed in December 1988 the English first division club Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham finished the season in the Football League First Division 1988/89 on the sixth place. The following 1989/90 season led the team from North London to third place behind the champions Liverpool and Aston Villa. The season 1990/91 took place in the First Division with the tenth disappointing for Thorstvedt won with his team-mates Gary Lineker, Paul Gascoigne and Pat Van Den Hauwe the FA Cup in 1990/91 by a 2-1 in extra time against Nottingham Forest. In Europe Cup Winners' Cup 1991/92 the Off followed by wins against Hajduk Split and FC Porto in the quarter- final against Feyenoord Rotterdam. In the English Championship Tottenham acted after the departure of Lineker and Gascoigne little success. In the meantime established Premier League 1994/95 also 20 league goals from Jurgen Klinsmann ensured only for a seventh place in the table. In the UEFA Intertoto Cup 1995 Hotspurs missed participation in the UEFA Cup clearly. After another season in the Premier League 1995/96 Thorstvedt finished his career in 1996 due to an injury at the age of 33 years.
Norwegian national
Between 1982 and 1996 he studied Erik Thorstvedt 97 caps for the Norwegian national football team. The highlight was the participation in the Football World Cup 1994 in the USA. Thorstvedt played in all three group matches against Mexico, Italy and Ireland failed with his team but the narrowest of margins due to the worst goal difference as ten years earlier, he had participated in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with Norway. Also in this tournament different Norway after games against Chile, France and Qatar in the first round out.
