Erik Viborg

Erik Nissen Viborg (* April 5, 1759 in South Jutland Bedsted ( Tønder ), † September 25, 1822 in Copenhagen) was a Danish veterinarian and herbalist, as well as head of the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen.

Work

Viborg in 1797 professor of botany and director of the botanical garden. In 1801 he joined the Veterinary and led the Danish veterinary school at an early heyday.

His monograph on sand plants inspired the Danish king so much that every Danish home office received a copy for public use. The genus Wiborgia within the Fabaceae was named after him.

His scientific work in veterinary medicine was especially dedicated pigs, breeding and diseases. In addition, he published some fundamental insights into snot and dismissed in 1797 after that it is this is a contagious disease.
