Ēriks Koņeckis

Erich Konecki ( born February 9, 1920 in Riga, † February 2nd 2006 in Dortmund ) was a Latvian ice hockey player.

Life

Erich Konecki was one of the best strikers in Europe, who distinguished himself by his technology savvy. His career began in the 30s in Riga. For the Latvian national team he participated at the 1938 World Championships in Prague part.

After the Second World War he moved to Germany, making its most successful period began. First of 1945-1948 when HC Augsburg, then the exchange to Krefeld. With Preussen Krefeld he was as a player in 1951 German champions, neighboring EV Krefeld, he served as coach in 1952 also for the German championship. In 1959 he moved to be active as a coach to Dortmund there still. By 1963, he was the person in charge of TuS Eintracht Dortmund at the gang. In the summer of 1964, the former in charge of the newly established ERC Westfalen Dortmund were able to convince him to an engagement as coach. Konecki led the Westphalia until the time the second highest German league, the Oberliga. The 1971/72 season was his last as head coach of the ERC Westphalia.

For the German Ice Hockey Federation, he was present at the World Cup 1955 in Krefeld, Dortmund, Dusseldorf and Cologne as coach. Here he was responsible for the German B- team, which surprisingly - because out of competition - became the group.

He was honored with induction into the "Hall of Fame Germany " of the Hockey Museum in Augsburg in 2005.
