Geography

Geographical Location

Erkenbrechtsweiler is the only municipality in the district of Esslingen, whose denunciation lies completely on the Swabian Alb.

History

A grave mound from the Bronze Age proves that as early as the Bronze Age people lived in the district. Remains from the Hallstatt period have been found.

Erkenbrechtsweiler was first mentioned in documents in 1284 as Hergenbolswiler or Erggenboltswilaer, as Berthold von Neuffen it transferred to the Bishopric of Speyer fief. 1301 the place with the rule Neuffen was sold to the Count of Württemberg. The place was in 1938 the newly formed district Nürtingen and went out with this in 1973 in the district of Esslingen.

Natural Monuments

  • The Heidegraben, a Celtic oppidum ( a heavily fortified city), was built around 100 BC It is situated on a peninsula between the plateau -like Erin's and Lauter and has a total of over 16 square kilometers, the largest facility of its kind in Central Europe.
