Erkin Koray

Erkin Koray (born 24 June 1941 in İstanbul ) is considered one of the greatest artists of the Turkish rock music.

Biography

Erkin Koray Vecihe mother taught in İstanbul State Conservatory ( İstanbul Belediye Konservatuarı ) Western classical music on the piano. This music had an early influence on Erkin and he got at the age of five years piano lessons from his mother. During his time in high school he learned the rock music know. Since he simultaneously attended the Conservatory, he improved his piano playing. On 29 December 1957 he was at the age of 16 years in Galatasaray High School his first concert on the piano.

Erkin Koray commented on his career in the movie Crossing The Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul ( Fatih Akın of ). He had throughout his career always been obstacles placed in the way, because his preferred genre of rock music at that Turkey was hardly popular. So he published in the 70s/80s in part at record companies in Germany produced the music of artists with a migration background. Erkin Koray is a pioneer of a new musical culture and a new understanding of music in Turkey and therefore one of the most important artists of the Turkish rock music.
