Erkki Laine

Erkki Juhani Laine (* September 13, 1957 in Lahti, † 22 August, 2009 Asikkala ) was a Finnish professional ice hockey player. His daughter Emma Laine is one of the best tennis players in Finland.

Career

Erkki Laine began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Kiekko - Reipas Lahti, with its professional team he rose in the 1975/76 season as champions of the second-class I- divisioona in the SM- liiga. With 40 goals, he was top scorer in the I- divisioona. In the SM- liiga the winger spent two years before he ran aground 1978-1982 for Leksand IF in the Swedish Elitserien. In the 1980/81 season he was here for the first time top scorer in the Elitserien. After a two-year return to hometown club Kiekko - Reipas from the SM- liiga, Finland's played from 1984 to 1988 for the Färjestad BK of the Elitserien. There he was in season 1984/85 right off the bat also top scorer in the highest Swedish league. In the seasons 1985/86 and 1987/88 he won with the FBK respectively the Swedish championship title and was top scorer in both years of the playoffs. In between, he was in the 1986/87 season with Färjestad runner-up.

For the 1988/89 season to the BSC Preussen Laine joined from the Hockey League. For the team, he scored 14 goals in 36 matches and 25 templates. However, the 1989/90 season began the two -time Olympian in the HC Davos in the Swiss National League B, she finished with his hometown club Kiekko - Reipas in the I- divisioona. With the team at season's end he was able to rise again in the SM- liiga, in which he played another four years before he took up after re- descent of the team in the 1994/95 season once again in the second Finnish league. He then finished his career at the age of 37 years.

Laine died in August 2009 at the age of 51 years in a boating accident. In his honor, awarded the Pelicans Lahti no longer the jersey number 13.

Internationally

For Laine Finland took part in the Under-19 European Junior Championships in 1976 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1977 at junior level. In the Under-19 Championship, he won the bronze medal with his team in 1976. In the senior level, he stood in the squad of his country at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and in Calgary in 1988 and won in 1988 with Finland the silver medal.
