Erling Kristiansen

Erling Kristiansen ( born October 3, 1923 in Oslo, † 25 July, 2009 Rud ) was a Norwegian cyclist.

Erling Kristiansen was the dominant road cyclist Norway in the 1940s to the 1950s. During this time he was 23 times Norwegian champion in the individual and in the team time trial and three times in road single race. He drove at the UCI Track World Championships in 1949 and 1950 as well as in the Scandinavian Championships. He twice competed in the road race in the individual and in team riding in the Olympics; 1948 in London, he came in both competitions is not the finish line, 1952, he was 25th in Helsinki in the road race and tenth in the team time trial ( with Odd Berg and Lorang Christiansen ).

Kristiansen was for many years member of the board of the Norwegian Cycling Federation; 1959 to 1960 he was its vice chairman. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he oversaw the later gold medal winner in the individual pursuit, Knut Knudsen.

1946 and 1947 Erling Kristiansen was awarded the "King Cup ". He received the Gold Medal of the Norwegian Association and was an honorary member of his club, the IK Hero. In civilian life, he worked in the furniture industry, later in the largest sporting goods store in Norway. He was also active as a long distance runner for many years.
