Erma Franklin

Erma Vernice Franklin ( born March 13, 1938 in Shelby, Mississippi; † 7 September 2002 in Detroit, Michigan) was an American soul, R & B and pop singer. However, their work has always been in the shadow of the career of her younger sister Aretha.

Life

Erma Franklin was born in the State of Mississippi; her father C. L. Franklin was an influential Baptist minister and civil rights activist. The family moved several times before settling in Detroit. There Erma sang with her sisters Aretha and Carolyn in the church choir. In 1962, she released her first album, " Her Name Is Erma ". Her best-known recording is the original version of "( Take a Little) Piece of My Heart" ( Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy of ) of 1967, which came into the pop charts in both the U.S. and in the UK. With " Gotta Find Me a Lover ( 24 Hours a Day) " from the LP "Soul Sister" reached in 1969 a top 40 position in the U.S. R & B charts. In the 1970s, she retired - except for a few performances with Aretha - from the music business back.

Erma Franklin died in 2002 from the effects of cancer.
