Ermelo

Ermelo ( listen / i?) ( Nieders.: armel) is an extensive village and a municipality of the province of Gelderland in the Veluwe. On 1 January 2013 Ermelo had 26.132 inhabitants.

Location and economic

Ermelo is located a few kilometers south of the city of Harderwijk, in the Veluwe, a border lake of the IJsselmeer. The local trains between Amersfoort and Zwolle keep every hour at the station of Ermelo. Of great importance for the economy of Ermelo tourism and the large psychiatric hospitals are in the village.

History

Ermelo was first mentioned as Irminlo ( Large clearing in the forest ) in the year 855 urkündlich. In the early Middle Ages to have had a settlement Saxony or Franconia here.
