Ermengol II, Count of Urgell

Ermengol II of the Pilgrims (Catalan Ermengol el Pelegrí, † 1038/1039 in Jerusalem ) was a Count of Urgell from the House of Barcelona. He was a son of the Count of Urgell Ermengol I. († 1010).

The first years of his reign had probably been under the guardianship of his uncle Raymond Borrell Barcelona Ermengol II. Below him sat the territorial expansion of the County of Urgell (Alt Urgell ) to south ( Baix Urgell ) against the Caliphate of Córdoba ( Al- Andalus ) a. Around the year 1033/34 he had conquered the castle of Àger ( comarca of Noguera ), with whom he belieh Arnau Mir de Tost his henchman. According to medieval chronicles Ermengol had died after 28 years of rule in 1038 during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. In contrast, a document of the Abbey of Sant Pere Àger from October 12, 1039 documented the sale of the castle Artesa by Ermengol II Arnau Mir de Tost to why a mistake of narrative chronicles as to the death year can not be excluded.

His wife Velasquita, which was also called Constança ( Belaschita que vocant Constancia ), had for some time the regency in Urgell for their son Ermengol III. († 1065 ) adopted.
