Ernest Denis

Ernest Denis ( born January 3, 1849 in Nîmes, † January 4, 1921 in Paris) was a French historian.

Denis worked as a university professor at the University of Paris Sorbonne. His research topic was the history of Eastern Europe with a focus on the history of the Czechs. He was an important supporter of the statehood of the Czech people. Denis founded with Louis Eisenmann and with Louis Léger, the " Comité national d' études " which advocated the independence of the Czech Republic. He also was a member of a French research group, the " Comité d' études " (engl.: "Study Commission"), which dealt with the exploration of the Saar and the Rhineland. He was a friend of the later Czech president Eduard Benes.
