Ernest Istook

Ernest James Istook Jr. ( born February 11, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American politician. Between 1993 and 2007 he represented the fifth electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ernest Istook visited the Castleberry High School in Fort Worth and then to 1971 Baylor University in Waco until 1967. After studying law at the law faculty of Oklahoma City University and his 1976, admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession. During his studies Ernest Istook also worked as a radio newscaster.

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1977 and 1978 he was a member of a State Board of Oklahoma to control the handling of alcoholic beverages; He was also legal advisor to Governor David L. Boren. From 1982 to 1986, Istook member of the board of public libraries in Oklahoma County, since 1985, he was chairman of this committee. In 2006, Istook gave up another run for the House of Representatives. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for the post of Governor of Oklahoma. In the elections he was defeated with 33.5 % of the vote the Democratic incumbent Brad Henry. Later Istook was still indirectly involved in a bribery scandal in which it came to campaign contributions.

Ernest Istook is married since 1973 and has five children.
