Ernest Palmer (American cinematographer)

Ernest Palmer ( born December 6, 1885 in Kansas City, Missouri, † February 22, 1978 in Pacific Palisades, California ) was an American cinematographer.

Life

Ernest Palmer began in 1918 his career as a cameraman and worked for various production companies such as Metro Pictures Corporation and Louis B. Mayer Pictures, until in 1924 a permanent contract with the Fox Film Corporation received the 1935 with 20th Century Pictures to 20th Century Fox merged. Over the years, Palmer has worked with several high profile directors, including Victor Fleming, FW Murnau, Henry King, John Ford, Otto Preminger and Delmer Daves.

In 1930 he was for two movies angels of the road ( Street Angel, 1928) and Four Devils (4 Devils, 1928), nominated for Best Cinematography Oscar. In 1942 he received the trophy along with Ray Rennahan for Rouben Mamoulians bullfighting drama King of the Toreros ( Blood and Sand, 1941) in the category of Best Cinematography / Color. For Delmer Daves ' Western The Broken Arrow ( Broken Arrow, 1950) Palmer was nominated a second time for an Oscar and also received a Golden Globe nomination.

In 1960, Ernest Palmer retired from the film business. He died in 1978 at the age of 92 years in Pacific Palisades, and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
