Ernest Stoneman

Ernest V. " Pop " Stoneman ( born May 25, 1893 in Monorat, Virginia; † June 14, 1968 ) was an American Old-time musicians. Stoneman was one of the first rural musician who was immortalized with its traditional music on vinyl.

Life

Childhood and youth

Born and raised in Carroll County, Virginia, Stoneman was raised by his father and three cousins. In the family, he learned the most traditional songs of the Blue Ridge Mountains, he should load the settings. As a young man married Stoneman and chatted with odd jobs. At the same time he joined friends and neighbors as a musician.

Career

After Stoneman had heard a panel of hillbilly musicians Henry Whitter, he bet with his friends that his records would still sound much better than Whitters. He traveled to New York City in 1924 and got Okeh Records immediately signed a contract as Old-time musicians were much in demand in the 1920s. The end of 1924 came out his second single The Sinking of the Titanic and was a big hit. The song was one of the most successful of the whole decade, and should be part of Stoneman's most famous pieces. 1927 Stoneman's career reached its peak.
