Ernie Henry
Ernie Henry ( born September 3, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York City; † December 29, 1957 in New York) was an American alto saxophonist.
Life and work
Ernie Henry played at the beginning of his career at Tadd Dameron approximately 1947, 1948/49, with Dizzy Gillespie and 1950-1951 at Illinois Jacquet. After he had retired for a few years of the jazz scene, Henry worked then in 1956 with Thelonious Monk Brilliant Corners on its session in 1957 and again with Gillespie together.
Being influenced by Charlie Parker playing can be heard on records by Tadd Dameron, Kenny Dorham, Gillespie, Matthew Gee, Howard McGhee and Fats Navarro, Monk and James Moody. He also participated in 1956/57, three albums under his own name, on which Kenny Dorham, Kenny Drew, Wynton Kelly, Wilbur Ware, Art Taylor and Philly Joe Jones participated.
