Ernst Ahl

Ernst Ahl ( born September 1, 1898 in Berlin, † probably in 1943 in Yugoslavia ) was a German zoologist, ichthyologist and herpetologist.

Life

In 1921 he received his doctorate at the Berlin Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität with the work to knowledge of the teleost family Chaetodontidae especially the subfamily Chaetodontinae.

From 1921 to 1941 he worked at the Zoological Museum of the University of Berlin; he was there heads of departments for fish and reptiles. He was also from 1927 to 1934 chief editor of the magazine The Aquarium. Ahl was an active member of the NSDAP.

On 27 August 1939 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and later wounded in Poland. After his recovery he was first, then inserted into North Africa in Yugoslavia, where he disappeared.
