Ernst Baumann

Ernst Baumann ( born April 17, 1909 in Wileroltigen; † January 9, 1992 in Basel) was a Swiss painter and artist.

Biography

Strong impressions of nature influenced his whole life. In order to convey his impressions, he took the decision already to be a painter in his early youth. From 1927 to 1929 he attended art courses of general trade school in Basel. As he had no relationship to the art world, he had to earn his living as a painter flat. In evening classes at the Vocational School of Art Baumann tried to expand his knowledge. From 1933 to 1939 he achieved initial progress, Baumann studied with painter friends to the most diverse art academies in Paris. In 1948 he was a teacher at the general Basel School a permanent position he held until 1974.

He achieved fame primarily through wall paintings that adorn the wide variety of buildings. Regular Malaufenhalte on the Atlantic coast, the Mediterranean, the Ticino and the Swiss mountains followed. He died at home in Basel after a long illness.

Style of painting

Until the beginning of the 1950s, this is characterized by a tone on tone painting with muted colors. Only then he will start to use brighter colors.
