Ernst Fuchs (doctor)

Ernst Fuchs ( born June 14, 1851 in Kritzendorf, Lower Austria, † November 21, 1930 in Vienna ) was an Austrian ophthalmologist. Son of Adalbert Nikolaus Fuchs.

Life

Ernst Fuchs was from 1881 to 1885 professor at the University of Liege and then to 1915, Chairman of the Vienna Eye Clinic. He is considered the founder of pathological anatomy of the eye and put a collection of eyes cuts on. He also founded the histologic foundation of diseases and developed new surgical techniques.

In 1887 he founded, together with Heinrich von Bamberger Wiener clinical Wochenschrift.

His relief in the arcades of the University of Vienna is from the sculptor Josef Mullner. Named after him is the Fuchsgasse in Kritzendorf. In 1886 he was admitted as a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina, he is since 1921 an honorary citizen of the city of Vienna.
