1 FC Magdeburg

The Ernst-Grube -Stadion was the largest stadium in the city of Magdeburg.

It had a capacity of 25,800 spectators and was the home stadium of the 1 FC Magdeburg. It was named after the Magdeburg Reichstag deputies Ernst Grube (KPD ). In 2005 it was demolished. At the same place was from June 2005 to November 2006 a new football stadium, the MDCC- Arena for up to 27,250 spectators.

History

A first stadium at this point ( Gübser dam ) was inaugurated on 14 April 1912. It served the football club Victoria 96 as a venue. The first highlight was the performance of the final of the German Football Championship of 1914 between SpVgg Fürth and VfB Leipzig.

Referred to as Ernst-Grube -Stadion stadium was built in the time of the GDR in the early 1950s. The plan was initially the construction of a large sports complex with a stadium for 80,000 people and a large indoor pool in the center of Magdeburg on the Schroteplatz. The corresponding City Council Decision of 25 May 1954, but not implemented, as the distributors on the designated off-road operation of VEB protested building material supply to the government and received a permit for the use of the land until 1960. The city, therefore, decided to rebuild on the Victoria site.

Due to the increasing requirements for remediation of the plant after almost 50 years of existence of the Magdeburg city council decided to demolish the old facility and the construction of a modern football stadium in 2004. The floodlight towers were demolished by an explosion.

During the construction of the first FC Magdeburg played from February 2005 until the end of 2006 again at the Heinrich Germer Stadium. On 10 December 2006, the new football stadium was inaugurated in Magdeburg.
