Ernst Hilger

Ernst Hilger ( born February 28, 1950 in Vienna) is an Austrian gallery.

Life

Ernst Hilger was born in 1950 in Vienna, the son of the eponymous television journalist Ernst Hilger. After studying business administration from the University of Economics Vienna Hilger began work as a cultural and event speaker. Just next to the studies carried establishment and operation of the Folk Club Atlantis. Hilger created a concept for the Youth Club of the Central Savings Bank and founded the Student Edition edition etudiante. In 1971 he was a founding partner of the Academia Gallery / Salzburg and 1972 the gallery Spectrum. 1974 Hilger was co-editor of the first newspaper of the Austrian art GALLERY MIRROR with Paul Kruntorad. In 1976, the opening of his own gallery in Dorotheergasse. 1977 was the beginning of publishing activity. Since about 1000 exhibitions originated in and outside the gallery with works by Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Alberto Giacometti, Jean Dubuffet, Lucio Fontana, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Oskar Kokoschka, Alfred Hrdlicka, Fritz Wotruba, Hans Staudacher, Mel Ramos, Allen Jones, Erró.

It was followed by an advisory board for Art Basel from 1989 to 1993, and since 1996, he reinforced the promotion of young artists together with Siemens Austria over the Siemens_artLab. In 1997, Hilger participated in the founding of the Internet newspaper www.artmagazine.cc together with Werner Rodlauer. 2003 saw the establishment of the hilger contemporary as well as a platform for international contemporary art with an emphasis Southeastern Europe. He took over the leadership of the Austrian Art Curatorial Lounge Austrian Airlines project and served as president of the Gallery Association FEAGA until 1997.
