Ernst Knaack

Ernst Knaack (* November 4, 1914 in Berlin, † August 28, 1944 in Brandenburg ) was a German communist and resistance fighter against National Socialism.

Life

Knaack 1928 concluded at the Communist Youth League of Germany ( KJVD ). He held the position of Head of Agitation and Propaganda in the district of Prenzlauer Berg. From 1933 he fought against the illegal Nazi rule. In 1935, he was arrested for the first time and sentenced on October 2, 1936 to two years' imprisonment by the Court of Berlin. After his release from prison to Knaack joined the illegal organization by Robert Uhrig. On March 26, 1942, the Gestapo arrested him again and took him to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, where he remained until his trial. On 6 July 1944, the People's Court of Justice issued the death sentence on him.

Appreciation

In Berlin -Prenzlauer Berg after him were the Knaackstraße, the named Ernst Knaack youth center, which was known under the name Knaack Club until its closure, and the 24 POS Ernst Knaack in the avenue of chestnut trees, the stele traditions of the German working class by Heinz Worner ( Knaackstraße 53-67 ) is dedicated to the murdered anti-fascist Ernst Knaack and Siegmund Sredzki. The Youth Hostel in Brotterode ( Thuringia) also bears his name.
