Ernst Moro

Ernst Moro ( born December 8, 1874 in Ljubljana, † April 17, 1951 in Heidelberg ) was a German pediatrician.

He studied medicine at the University of Graz and was after his graduation in 1899 assistant at the local children's hospital. From 1 April 1902 to end March 1903 Ernst Moro worked as an assistant at St. Anna Children's Hospital in Vienna. In 1906 he qualified as a professor in Munich, 1911, he was an associate professor of Pediatrics at Heidelberg, where he led the Children's Hospital Luis Institute in Heidelberg. In 1919, he became the first Professor of Pediatrics at Heidelberg. 1923 Luis institution was adopted as the University Children's Hospital from the state.

In 1936 Moro emeritus at his own request due to the Nazi racial laws, because his wife Grete was of Jewish origin. Until 1948, he operated a private practice in Heidelberg yet. In addition to the Moro reflex, he also had the following bases by:

  • Sterility of the normal small intestine,
  • Stronger bactericidal properties in the blood of breast-fed infants,
  • " Navel colic "
  • Coining of the term " first trimester " and the
  • Moro reaction (percutaneous tuberculin reaction).

In addition, he also published a carrot soup that the infant mortality rate dropped dramatically in the early 20th century because of diarrhea and today again is interesting because it is also effective against resistant bacteria.
