Ernst Münch

Ernst Münch ( * November 26, 1876 in Ruchheim, now part of Ludwigshafen am Rhein, † October 9, 1946 in Lechbruck ) was a German forestry scientist and botanist.

Münch was the older brother of the later local dialect poet Paul Münch (1879-1951) and the father of the concentration camp doctor Hans Münch. He studied Forestry in Aschaffenburg and Munich. 1904 Münch was an assistant to Carl von Tubeuf at the Forestry Research Institute Munich, 1909, he received a doctorate in phil. From 1910 he worked at the government forestry department Speyer. In 1921 he became a full professor of Forest Botany at the Forestry College Tharandt, 1933 at the University of Munich.

The areas of work of Munch included physiology, Dendrology and pathology. Outstanding are his work on the phloem, where he set up the pressure flow theory.
