Ernst Nievergelt

Ernst Nievergelt ( born March 23, 1912 in Affoltern; † July 1, 1999 in Kappel am Albis ) was a Swiss racing driver who ever won a 1936 Olympic silver and bronze medal.

Nievergelt 1935 had won the amateur class at the Championship of Zurich. At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, the road race was held over 100 kilometers on the AVUS - Nordschleife. On the flat course, the field stayed together until the finish and crossed within a few seconds the finish line. It was won by Frenchman Robert Charpentier ahead of his compatriot Guy Lapébie and Ernst Nievergelt. The team score was determined according to the added time of the first three riders of these countries, the French were victorious against the Swiss with Ernst Nievergelt, Edgar Buchwalder and Kurt Ott.

From 1937 to 1939 Nievergelt drove in professional racing. In 1937, he took second place at around Berlin. His only victory as a professional managed Nievergelt 1938, when he won the ninth stage of the International Tour of Germany. In the Tour de Suisse, he finished on the sixth stage in second place and in the overall standings to 19th place.
