Ernst Poertgen

Ernst Poertgen ( born January 25, 1912 in Old Food, † November 3, 1986 in Bonn ) was a German football player.

Club career

The trained painter was considered a " magician on the ball" and was fast. His career that would bring him up to the national team, started at BV Altenessen 06 and led in 1931 to Schwarz-Weiß Essen. In 1934, he joined, after a brief interlude at the 1 FC Nuremberg, for FC Schalke 04, in which he was to spend his most successful period.

In 1934 came with the miners winning the German championship with 2-1 victory over 1.FC Nuremberg. 1935 succeeded the successful title defense with 6-4 against VfB Stuttgart striker and Poertgen provided with three goals, almost alone for the win. To double it was not enough, however. In the Cup final they lost the 1st FC Nuremberg 0-2.

In 1936 there was nothing to harvest for Schalke. In the championship already failed in 0:2 again in the semi-final against Nuremberg, it did not work well in the cup final. Here the winner was VfB Leipzig, 2-1 before the break also brought the on the second half.

National
