Ernst Reijseger

Ernst Reijseger ( born November 13, 1954 in Bussum, Netherlands) is a Dutch cellist. He plays both avant-garde jazz, new music and improvised music.

Life and work

Reijseger began with eight years to play on the cello. He was taught by Anner Bijlsma. Since the early 1970s, he focused his interest on improvisation. He collected among others, Derek Bailey, Martin van Duynhoven and Gerry Hemingway ( Demon Chaser 1993) relevant experience. With Burton Greene, Sean Bergin and with dance and theater groups he performed in Europe. During the 1980s he played in the Amsterdam String Trio, Theo Loevendie Consort, the Guus Janssen Septet of, the Arcado String Trio and Orchestra of the Instant Composers Pool.

In the late 1980s founded Reijseger together with saxophonist Michael Moore and drummer Han Bennink Trio Clusone 3, with whom he recorded six CDs; in addition he has also performed with Joëlle Léandre, Albert Mangelsdorff, Louis Sclavis, Georg Gräwe ( The View from Points West 1991), Simon Nabatov, Ig Henneman, Boi Akih, Trilok Gurtu, and Mola Sylla. He was also involved in several world music projects with musicians from Sardinia, Turkey, Iran, the Moluccas or from Argentina.

Reijseger has also written film music in recent years, especially for films of Werner Herzog.

Awards

1985 Reijseger was awarded the Boy Edgar Prize. In 1995 he received at the North Sea Jazz Festival the Bird Award.
