Ernst Reiter

Ernst Reiter ( born October 31, 1962 in Ruhpolding ) is a former German biathlete.

Ernst Reiter was one of the most successful biathlete in the 1980s and one of the building of the German relay at major events. In the Biathlon World Cup, he reached many placings in the top ten. He reached in Ruhpolding, where he was third in 1987 and 1988 won a single His best results.

In major international events Reiter was repeatedly place well. So he won at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo together with Walter Pichler, Peter Angerer and Fritz Fischer behind the Soviet Union and Norway the bronze medal. Best result at the Biathlon World Championships 1985 in Egg am Etzel was ranked sixth in singles. Two years later in Lake Placid, he placed in the individual on the eighth in the sprint at the 15th rank. With the season ( with Herbert Fritz Wenger, Angerer, Fischer), he again won bronze behind the season of the GDR and the Soviet Union. Even more successful ran the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. Here he reached in individual although only the 29th place and finished 19th in the sprint, but with the West German squadron (Stefan Hock, Angerer, Fischer), he won silver behind the Soviet relay. His last World Cup riders ran in 1989 in Feistritz an der Drau. He was 18th in the sprint and 17th in singles. 1986 and 1989 he won the title of German Champion in singles.

After his sporting achievements Ernst Reiter turned his hobby into a career and worked for many years as a golf pro. Ernst Reiter has three children. He lives and works in South Tyrol.
