Ernst Schultz

Ernst Schultz (Ernst Ludvig Emanuel Schultz, born May 15, 1879 in Horsens, † June 20, 1906 in Roskilde Fjord ) was a Danish sprinter who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1900.

Schultz was a professional accountant. As a member of FF Copenhagen ( Copenhagen later IF) he participated in the National Championships in Denmark, where the unusual length of the route was completed by 150 meters 1896-1900. After this he had already reached the third place in 1898, he could even win the league title in 1899 and was renewed in 1900 to participate in second.

The Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 was the sporting highlight for Schultz. He participated only in the 400 -meter run, where he was one of 15 people, including eight Americans. However, in his advance he had only one U.S. runner as an opponent, behind the Schultz was awarded second place and thus qualified for the final run. Schultz was in the final six participants originally the only runner who was not a U.S. citizen.

The final competition was held on Sunday 15 July. This paved some U.S. athletes difficulties because their faith forbade them any sport on a Sunday. The organizers had in principle, so that eventually three runners, Dixon Boardman, Harry Lee and William Moloney, did not participate no pity on the wishes of many U.S. athletes who wanted to deny any competition on a Sunday on the final run. With only three runners in the final Schultz was safe third place. However, the residue on both his U.S. counterpart was enormous.
