Ernst Strüngmann Institute

The Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience in Cooperation with Max Planck Society ( ESI) is a private research institute in Frankfurt am Main. It was founded in September 2008 by Andrew and Thomas Strüngmann and has the legal form of a " non-profit limited liability company " ( gGmbH ). The brothers Strüngmann established to finance the ESI Ernst Strüngmann Foundation, which is named after her father. The Institute conducts research in the field of cognitive neuroscience and brain research.

The founding directors of ESI are the neurophysiologist Wolf Singer and since 2009 is the physician and neuroscientist Pascal Fries, the executive director of the institute.

The ESI is also called "associated facility " of the Max Planck Society ( MPG), Pascal Fries is " Scientific Member " of the MPG.

The ESI includes four working groups (as of February 2013):

  • Senior Research Group of Wolf Singer
  • Diester Lab, Research Group Ilka Diester
  • Schmid Lab, Research Group Michael Schmid
