Erskine Tate

Erskine Tate (born 19 December 1895 in Memphis, Tennessee, † December 17, 1978 in Chicago) was an American jazz big band leader and violinist of the Swing.

Erskine Tate came to Chicago in 1912, where he led an orchestra in the Vendome Theatre from 1918 until the late 1920s. The repertoire consisted only partly of jazz titles; But Tate employed in his orchestra numerous jazz musicians such as Everett Barksdale, Freddie Keppard, Buster Bailey, Jimmy Bertrand, Earl Hines, Stump Evans, Louis Armstrong ( Stomp Off Let's Go, Static Strut 1926), Bob Shoffner, Punch Miller, Omer Simeon, Preston Jackson, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson, and others. Until the mid- 1930s Tate led an orchestra, he worked as a music teacher.
