Erté

Erté Romain de actually Tirtoff ( born November 23, 1892 in Saint Petersburg, † April 21, 1990 in Paris) was an illustrator, stage designer and fashion designer.

With his illustrations and fashion designs Erté is one of the main exponents of Art Deco. His style is influenced by Synthetic Cubism, in conjunction with an exotic decorativism.

Erté learned drawing with private teachers in St. Petersburg and at the Paris Art Academy Julian. Already 1912-14 drew Erté for Paul Poiret in Paris, whose models for press and customers. Since 1915, the fashion magazine Harper 's Bazaar published his drawings. 1924-1937 he was under exclusive contract with Harper 's Bazaar and designed the covers and fashion illustrations. His illustrations have also been published in the following magazines: Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Femina and Art et Industrie.

In addition, Erté dedicated to the costume and set design for film (1925 movie costumes for Metro -Goldwyn- Mayer), Revue ( 1970-74 revues by Roland Petit, Zizi Jean Maire; André Heller's Revue " Flic Flac " ), theater, and opera.
