Erto e Casso

The community Erto e Casso ( Friulian Nert e Cjas ) is located in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It lies north of Pordenone and has 390 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012). The municipality consists of the two eponymous places Erto and Casso. Erto the valley town for ascents of Mount Duranno and Cima dei Preti.

The neighboring municipalities are Castellavazzo (BL), Cimolais Claut, Longarone (BL), Ospitale di Cadore (BL), Perarolo di Cadore (BL), Pieve d' Alpago (BL) and Soverzene (BL).

Annual events

Every year at Easter held the scenic representation of the Passion of Christ in Erto.

The Passion Play is played for over 400 years and was only once, namely, not listed in 1964.

Disaster of Vajont

In the late evening of October 9, 1963 was completely destroyed by the disaster of Vajont the neighboring and administrative center Longarone, almost the entire local population was killed. Due to the backlog of slid down into the reservoir mountain masses - the dam remained intact - were also numerous people behind it ( orographic front, above ) lying ( Erto ) valley killed.

Notable people

Erto is the home of the mountaineers, wood sculptor and writer Mauro Corona ( born 1950 ), who primarily for his autobiographical short stories in which he handled the disaster of Vajont, enjoys high reputation in Italy.
