Erwin Hillier

Erwin Hillier ( born September 2, 1911 in Berlin -Charlottenburg, † January 2, 2005 in London ) was a German - British cinematographer.

Life

He worked early on with painting began in 1927 and studied at the Berlin Academy of Art. In 1929 he continued his studies in London and then returned back to Berlin. He was an assistant to Fritz Lang's 1932 camera classic The Testament of Dr. Mabuse Through the mediation of FW Murnau.

In the rise of the National Socialists in 1933, Hillier emigrated and went to live in London. He collaborated as a camera assistant almost exclusively with foreign cameramen, including Curt Courant and Günther spasm.

1941 gave Hillier, now a British citizen, his debut as a cinematographer with the spy comedy The Lady of Lisbon. In the following years he worked for the film company Archers.

Between 1948 and 1968 he made ten films with director Michael Anderson, including the war film in May 1943 - The destruction of the dams and the Crime Whispering shadows.
