Erwin Lutz

Erwin Lutz is an Austrian Righteous Among the Nations.

The policeman Lutz worked in 1944 as Executive Chef at Innsbruck Prison. He decided together with the Innsbruck detectives Rudi Moser to save five Polish Jews from deportation to a concentration camp. He persuaded his superiors to let the papers of the girls disappear, and use them for the service in his kitchen.

As on 18 January 1945 arrived the command to transport all the inmates of the prison into a concentration camp Bergen- Belsen, the flight of the girls out of jail was planned. Two of the five Polish women managed to escape.

Erwin Lutz offered them as the first refuge in his home village of Maple Street at 3.
