Erwin Oberländer

Erwin Oberlander ( born March 19, 1937 in Königsberg ) is a German historian Eastern Europe and retired university professor.

Life

The son of the Nazis and later Federal Minister Theodor Oberlander studied from 1956 History and Slavic Studies at the Universities of Munich, Vienna and Cologne. In Cologne he was in 1963 with a thesis on Tolstoy and the revolutionary movement to the Dr. phil. doctorate. From 1963 to 1974 he was a research fellow at the Federal Institute for Russian, East European and International Studies in Cologne. In 1973 he was appointed associate professor in the University of Cologne. In the years 1974 and 1975 Oberlander was a Research Senior Researcher at the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

1975 appointed him the Westfälische Wilhelms -Universität Münster Professor of Modern and Contemporary History of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. In 1985 he became Professor of Eastern European History and Director of the Institute for East European History at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He retired in 2002.

Oberlander is connected with the science of history of Latvia and Riga, where it is co-editor of various historical journals.
